Old Dominion University Police Statement

On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at approximately 9:50 p.m., two individuals suffered injuries from a shooting that took place in parking lot 3 on 49th Street. The individuals transported to the hospital are not students and are not affiliated with Old Dominion University.   

An emergency alert was sent by email, phone and text at 10:01 p.m. advising members of the campus community to remain indoors. At 11:43 p.m., ODU sent an emergency alert lifting the shelter-in-place. There is no ongoing threat to the ODU community. 

The individuals were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Norfolk Police are investigating, and any further inquiries should be directed there. 

The safety of the ODU community continues to be our top priority. All ODU students are automatically registered to receive ODU Alerts, while faculty and staff can opt-in to receive alerts. All members of the ODU community are encouraged to sign up for the University’s official notification system.  

Walk-in counseling services will be available on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025 for students. The Office of Counseling can be reached at (757) 683-4401 and appointments can be made online.
